Well... [11 Jun 2005|01:51am]

[ mood | lonely ]

I don't know what my deal is lately. I go from feeling really good about myself, to being downright pissy about my appearance. It's shallow really I know, to feel so bummed out all for the way I look physically. All the same, people make little comments and they stick with me. I'm not talking about for days, but for years. I still think about some of the things people have said to me and feel like shit. *rolls eyes* It's actually pretty pathetic if you think about it. I wish I could remember the compliments, as wella s the insults.

Okay...well this community lacked some entusiasm so I have a question.

What does everyone think about piercings? more then ear piercings I mean. Pretty, not pretty? Depends on what it is? etc?

sarnah
stolen_slipper, I read your post on __thebeautifuls after a friend pointed it out to me, and I had to come check out your community. It looks like a great idea. :)

What has been one of the most life changing experiences for you?
Befriending a couple of people who are very dear to me. They had/have a lot of problems in their lives, and over the years I've broken through their shells and gotten them to trust me. Sharing my life with them is a blessing.

Whom do you admire most and why?
My mother, hands down. She is everything that I want to be and absolutely perfect--well, except for her temper. ;) She is caring and intelligent and beautiful in every way. She'll strike up a conversation with anyone. Everyone knows her, everyone loves her.

What is something you've always wanted to do, but have yet to?
I've always wanted to write. Not necessarily write a book, but actually sit down and write some stories. I've never had the time to devote to it.

What scares you the most?
Losing my mind to Alzheimer's, or growing up alone. I value my intelligence more than anything else about myself, and I live to make my friends happy.

Why are you proud to be a woman?
Women are strong. We fight for freedom and equality. Gender stereotypes don't phase us; we wear pants and pixie cuts and ties if we feel like it. We shatter others' expectations about what's right and what's proper for someone of our sex. We have beautiful curves. We can give life. We are complicated and emotional and we need each other.

Who do you find the most beautiful? Physically? Spiritually? Inner beauty?
My mother, my mother, my mother. She's the most beautiful person, inside and out.

What do you most wish to change about your body? What is something you'd never want to change from it?
I'd like to gain a little bit of weight. I don't really think I'm too skinny, but I think other people might, and I'm self-conscious about it. I love how long my nails grow, and how long my hair is, and how blue my eyes are.

What is something you'd like to change about your inner spirit?
I wish I didn't rely so much on the validation of others to feel good about myself. Even though I know I'm beautiful, and smart, and funny, I never quite believe it until someone else points it out.

What is the best thing someone has said to you? What is the worst thing?
The best thing anyone could ever say to me is a sincere "thank you," even if they don't express it with words. It means so much. The worst thing was something one of my ex-boyfriend's said to me. "You're the pretty one and I'm the smart one." I hate how the ideal compliment for a female seems to be that she's attractive. I like being valued for more than physical appeal.

How have you changed in the last year?
I've come to value my independence. This is the first time in four years that I haven't had a boyfriend. It feels great. I finally have time to do all of the little things I haven't been able to because so-and-so wants to talk on the phone, or gone a whole week without talking to my long-distance friends in favor of spending my days with a boy.

Is there anything you've always wanted to know, but didn't know how to ask?
Girls that are so desperate to lose weight when they really don't need to--I've always wanted to ask them why. What are they trying to prove? My friend's sister was in sixth grade and was dieting already. I wanted to cry. So young to succumb to such horrible standards of beauty.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
I'm 18 years old and I am currently a post-op student in southern Ohio; I'm still in high school, but I go to the local university and take their classes for high school (and college credit). I have a full ride scholarship for computer science waiting on me when I graduate, and I'm very proud of it. I'm wildly in love with my dog. My friends mean the world to me; online, they're mostly female, but IRL, they're mostly male. It's easier to find other girls online who don't care so much about makeup and magazines, which is probably why there's a gender difference. I love music and art of all types, and my favorite hobby is to make my friends laugh--or try to, anyway. Some of my jokes miss their marks. ;)

My questions. My answers. [18 Feb 2005|01:04pm]

What has been one of the most life changing experiences for you?
I grew up with two men in my life who were never really very good male role models. My father was 'semi-abusive' and my stepfather was an alcoholic. I think it really shaped me to be the person I am today. I don't have very good relationships with me. Though I strive to. Not all live changes are for the best sadly.
Who do you admire most and why?
I admire my mother. She's an amazing woman. She went to the university here while raising three daughters all on her own. She's a teacher now and have been teaching for nearly seven years.
What is something you've always wanted to do, but have yet to?
I really want to go skydiving. I have yet to get the chance, but I will someday.
What scares you the most?
Death. Losing my memory. I think they are equally frightening.
Why are you proud to be a woman?
I'm proud to be a woman because there is just something fundamentally beautiful about the way a woman carries herself. She can walk into a room and people look, not because of the way she's dressed, but because of the aura she carries with her. She just has an air about her that says she knows she's good enough. Better than good enough. And not to mention, the form of a woman. Curves or no curves. Big or small. A woman's body is always something so beautiful.
Who do you find the most beautiful? Physically? Spiritually? Inner beauty?
I think someone that is secure in their sexuality is really beautiful. Someone who isn't afraid to be who they are. I also think someone who knows what they believe, and are confident with their spiritual side is really beautiful.
What do you most wish to change about your body? What is something you'd never want to change from it?
I need to lose weight. Not to be thin, so much as to be healthy. Obesity runs in my family, as does other illness because of it. I don't want that to slow me down.
What is something you'd like to change about your inner spirit?
I need to be less concerned about what people think, as well as more secure in myself. I'm a pretty shy person. It's something I'd like to overcome.
What is the best thing someone has said to you? What is the worst thing?
Someone once told me I was never going to go anywhere in life. That hurt me more than anything else. I still have a hard time getting over it. The best thing someone told me was when this teacher I used to adore told me I could be whatever I wanted to be. That I could do anything I wanted to do. It was exactly what I needed to hear.
How have you changed in the last year?
I've become so much more sure of myself. More confident in the knowledge of myself.
Is there anything you've always wanted to know, but didn't know how to ask?
I've always wanted to know how some girls/women can be so confident is sexy outfits. I would love to be able to pull off the strappy shoes, low cut dress look.
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Well, I'm a college student at the Univeristy of Arkansas. I love to read. I'm addicted to good books and good music. I love live music of all sorts. I don't know how to drive. I ride a transit everywhere I can. I want to adopt someday. I want to join the Peace Corps. I have to younger sisters. I have always appriciated beauty in both art and life in general.

Thank you for allowing me the introduction, and I hope you all enjoy this community! Feel free to talk about anything! I'll gladly help out any way I can.

Make a Wish.
